What to do with those dusty barred instruments stuffed away in the dark cupboards of your music room?  Get them out, of course!  In this session, we will experience a hands on instrumental musical adventure a la Orff Schulwerk, with emphasis on solfege and musical literacy, the shining stars in the Kodaly approach.  Orff and Kodaly can indeed be pals!

Lissie Quishenberry’s current portfolio career in music education includes teaching grades 2-5 at the Pasadena Waldorf School, grades K-4 choir at Crescenta Valley Adventist School, private lessons, and various musicianship classes for Los Angeles Children’s Chorus.  She is certified in Orff Schulwerk and and is one paper away from her Kodaly Certification.  She is currently obtaining her single subject credential for music at Cal State LA.  She lives in Altadena with her husband, three lovely daughters, dog, cat, cockatiel, and 2 lively hamsters.

Participants will learn about teaching the recorder by playing the recorder.  Topics include proper technique, poster, tonguing, musicianship and classroom management.  A non-published recorder book will be used that provides a step-by-step progression from rote to note reading.  Recorder book provided.  Bring your own recorder.  The workshop will conclude by combining Orff Instruments and recorders.
